2.0 4 cyl. Ford Mercury engines any good for long trips?
I am about to buy this Mercury Mystique with a 4 cylinder 2.0 engine. It is running smooth. I will travel 150 miles once a month with my wife and two kids and a big duffle bag in the truk. Would this engine have any problems hadling that load? I know I should go with a v-6 if in doubt, but I don’t want to spend more money if I don’t have to. Thanks for your comments.
You won’t set any speed records, but it should handle the load just fine, and get pretty decent gas mileage. You didn’t mention what year the car was. Make sure to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Check all the fluids, brakes, a/c, etc. If buying from a private person and not a dealer, ask if they have a maintenance record for the car. Good luck.
