Accepted Lock
Accepted and weight listed to schools…how does that work?

I just got weight listed to BU which I am strongly considering. I also got accepted to some UC schools. However, let’s say that I submit my intent to register at one of the UC’s and then get accepted to BU a couple weeks after. Can I still not go to the UC or am I locked in?

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated! :)

Thank you.

First off all, it’s “wait” listed (“weight” is how many pounds are you).

Second, I don’t think you even UNDERSTAND what wait-listed means. So, I’ll explain that first, then answer your question.

SO, the school has a maximum amount of students they can accept. The can’t accept EVERY single applicant, this you know. So… they pick the brightest and best students and send them out acceptance letters.

Those that are left without acceptance letters are placed into one of two groups…. rejected or wait-listed.

Those rejected will NOT gain acceptance for anything… though it is possible to “appeal” rejection, it isn’t likely to be approved.

Those wait-listed are in the middle….

Say 100 students (small number for simplicity) are accepted to the university. But… just because they recieve acceptance letters doesn’t necessary mean the will ACCEPT it and go to that school.
So… say only 80 people accept… then the school still has 20 available spots to fill, which will be FILLED by those who are on the wait-list.
So… at that point, the admissions will go through all the students put on the wait-list to determine the “best and brightest” of THIS bunch, and send out another 20 acceptance letters.

SO…. Here’s where you have to get dates involved. For the group of people who were accepted, they have until April 15 to accept their admission to the school, or reject. By then, the school will know how many spots they will need to fill.

Now… for YOUR situation. Because you’ve been accepted to some UC schools, you need to notify them by April 15 whether you accept or reject their acceptance. However, by April 15, you will NOT know whether you will be ” MIGHT” be accepted to BU. If you accept NOTHING now, and BU rejects you from the “wait-list”, you will have NO WHERE to go.

So, think long and hard. You either accept a UC, or you reject them all in hope you will be accepted at BU… if you don’t get that acceptance (which, no offense, isn’t that likely), you will be left unadmitted to ALL schools.

So… I wish you the best of luck, but in my opinion, you NEED to pick a school you’ve been accepted to by April 15.
