Is it possible to upright an impacted 2nd molar, and what’s involved to do it?
Hi,
About a 1.5 yrs ago we discovered that my son had an impacted 2nd molar (bottom right). I have a feeling it may have turned as a part of his ortho work.
His orthodonist has recommended extraction. The tooth is tight to 1st molar and slightly erupted. My dentist, also unhappy with the orthodontist, and has suggested I get a second opinion, which I will do. Before I get that second opinion I was hoping to know if it is even possible to right an impacted 2nd molar.
Based on what I’ve read, if the 2nd molar is extracted, it’s doubtful his wisdom tooth will come in straight and fill the gap. His orthodonist was suggesting that it would. The wisdom tooth is already crooked.
The other option of course is an implant, or bridge, or a combination of both.
I’m trying to do what’s best for my son. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wow… talk about deja vu… my daughter had the same thing… her lower left second molar was impacted… we opted to have it lifted and put into place.. to summarize: it was successful!
I’d get a second opinion from an unbiased oral surgeon… but it can be done………
